Classes for kids

A great introduction to clay, this special session for budding potters aged 9 to 14 helps develop skills in throwing on the potter’s wheel and provides a solid grounding in pottery fundamentals.

Students are taught how to center a mound of clay on the potter’s wheel, and how to throw, trim and glaze their pots. They learn how to make cups, bowls and other simple forms.

To prepare for class, students should dress in clothes they don't mind getting dirty, trim their fingernails short, tie back long hair, and bring an old towel for wiping their hands.

The fee for 10 classes is $400. Cost of clay, use of tools and equipment, glazes and firing are included in the fee. Full payment is required at registration.

Hinckley Pottery reserves the right to cancel a session if enrollment does not reach a minimum of five students. Maximum class size is 10.

If a session is full or is cancelled, a full refund will be made. There are no refunds for absences.

Our larger location in Georgetown permits us to offer two class times for young potters. Both are on Sundays. The first meets from 12:30 to 3:00 pm and the second from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. The incomparable Karna Robinson, a kid favorite, will teach both classes.

Spring 2017: The session begins April 2 and ends June 11, with no class on May 28. To download a Spring Kid’s Class flyer, click here.
